How eBay fees are calculated
eBay's main fee is the final value fee: a percentage of the total sale amount (item + shipping + sales tax), set by category, plus a small per-order fee. If you use Promoted Listings, the ad fee is added on top. Your payout is the sale total minus fees; your profit is the payout minus what you paid for the item and the real shipping cost.
Example
You sell a jacket for $50 and charge $8 shipping, with 7% sales tax. Fee base = ($50 + $8) × 1.07 = $62.06. Final value fee = 13.6% × $62.06 = $8.44, plus $0.40 per order = $8.84 in fees.

How much does eBay take per sale in 2026?
For most categories eBay charges a 13.6% final value fee on the total amount of the sale — item price, shipping and sales tax — plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 if the order is $10 or less). Some categories differ: books, movies & music 15.3%, trading cards 13.25%, jewelry 15%, guitars 6.7%.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total the buyer pays, including shipping, handling and sales tax.
How do promoted listings affect my fees?

Are there insertion fees?
Most sellers get 250 free listings per month. Beyond that, insertion fees of about $0.35 per listing may apply — not included in this calculator.
